A Handmade Birthday Surprise

by Olivia Carter

Adorned with a whimsical three-tiered cake, colorful balloons, and festive bunting, this hand-drawn birthday card captures the vibrant joy and personal touch of a handmade celebration.

How it was made

Four focused passes turn a blank card into a bright, personal birthday surprise.

  1. Base Colors with Acrylic Markers

Use the brush tip of the Auto Ink Control Acrylic Paint Marker to lay down solid base colors for the three-tiered cake, filling the yellow layers and the wavy blue and pink frosting with bold, even strokes.

  2. Detailing the Cake with the Outline Marker

Switch to the fine tip to add the pink candle, tiny hearts in the pink frosting, polka dots, bows, and red sprinkles that make each cake layer feel playful and finished.

  3. Adding Surrounding Elements and Lettering

Continue with the fine tip to draw the colorful bunting, balloons, gift box, and confetti, then write HAPPY BIRTHDAY at the bottom in a whimsical hand-drawn style.

  4. Final Composition Check

Give the ink a moment to settle, check the spacing of the festive elements, and add any final dots or color touch-ups so the greeting card reads clearly from edge to edge.
